We’ll help you get wet with a free-and-inclusive Whitewater rafting excursion in Morzine, Les Gets and Tignes. Nothing breaks the ice with your fellow hotel guests like heading down a river at high speed on an inflatable raft, right?
Whitewater Rafting is also a free activity for guests in Tignes, where it goes UP a grade!
RAFTING TIGNESA variation on rafting as you take to the rapids on your own floating toboggan (like a body board)
HYDRO SPEEDINGRafting is one of our most popular activities and a great ‘ice breaker’ of an activity to do with fellow Alpine Elements guests. The Alps are famous for their rapids and rafting is a sociable day out. The adventure will certainly have you all giggling about it in the hotel bar for the rest of the week!
Rafting is a half-day excursion and the actual session lasts for about 2½ to 3 hours. It’s great for all ages (8 to 9+) and offers a thrilling day out and you will descend about 6 kms of rapids.
It’s about a 30 minute transfer to the rafting centre and this professional organisation will brief you on kit use and safety before you go off to change into wetsuits, buoyancy aids and helmets. There is a small snack bar on site and the atmosphere is relaxed.
Our coaches will pick up guests after breakfast (transport included) and younger children under 8 or not confident at swimming can join our specially extended breakfast Active Kids club so parents can go and have fun!
After an excellent safety briefing and an introduction to the use of paddles and correct rafting techniques, you will head off to the rapids. You will join a raft with 6 to 8 people and an instructor / guide onboard, to help navigate you down the rapids.
Every so often the raft will stop for a break in a calm patch of water where you can get out and go for a swim or jump off rocks into deep pools, which is a lot of fun!
During the activity, your instructor and guide is at the helm of your raft as you and your companions (of the 10 man boat) career down rapids having a wail of a time. Each rafter has a paddle, (what you do with it, is another thing), but the general idea is that you all paddle in the same direction as guided by your man at the helm!
As your rubber boat weaves its way down the rapids, it will spin you around, douse you with water and give you a jolly good reason to cling onto the person sat next to you! During the ride, the raft will pull over for a pitstop and you will be offered the unmissable opportunity to hurl yourself off a rock and plunge into a deepwater pool. Or just sit by the side and watch everyone else do it, (which is my preference).
As you’ve probably guessed, rafting is a lot of fun for groups and families and each raft takes eight to ten people. We can often sort groups of friends to be together in a raft or combine families to make up their own raft. If your child is under 9, then so long as they can swim, it should be absolutely fine to take them along.
Your instructor will be with you at all times, at the back of the raft to help steer you down the rapids and keep things nice and safe. Everyone is armed with a paddle, so there’s plenty of teamwork as you ride down the river.
Our Holidays come with more free-and-inclusive activities than you can shake a kayak paddle at! What’s more – we’ve picked the best ones and packaged them up in our Active Pack.
If you have any energy left, you can try additional activities and our Active reps will help you organise them for a small additional cost. The most popular add-on activities are Canyoning, Via Ferrata, Horse Riding and Parapenting.
