Family Mountain Biking Holidays
Biking in the Alps is not just for the grown-ups! Each of our beautiful alpine resorts offers some great family trail riding along the valley floor, or at altitude using the lifts.
There’s also some fun for aspiring bikers to ’have a go’ on obstacle courses - which are great for learner riders, adults and young-guns alike - to understand some basic skills before taking them on the mountain.
Dads and Biking
Your Kids and Biking
Dads (and Mums!) love the bike facilities on offer, which, coupled with the warm weather encourages young riders to learn quickly; and the best bit is the ski lifts which are specially adapted for bikes… Everyone loves riding up the lifts to get to the top! Perfect respite before heading down the family trails, whilst grinning like a Cheshire cat and taking in bucket-loads of stunning scenery along the way!
Morzine and Les Gets are two great resorts for families - Kids as young as 5 can use the lifts when accompanied by an adult. A great idea is to join our guided ride with a professional guide or instructor which can be arranged on arrival by your Alpine Elements rep for a small local fee. This will get you and your kids started by introducing you to the lifts and trails so you’ll be able to ‘go it alone’ and ride some amazing terrain, (at altitude), for the rest of the week.
Tignes and Val d'Isere have a free bikers’ lift pass (great news!) but a little less family biking on offer at altitude (using the lifts). There’s still some great valley floor, woodland and lakeside trails though, with lots of great family riding to get stuck into.
Best Family Resorts
The best resorts for family biking are Morzine and Les Gets and kids as young as 5 years old can use the lifts to access easy cruising rides. We would recommend joining one of our family guiding groups which your Alpine Elements rep can arrange on arrival for a small fee. These are guided rides with professional instructors and will help you get started so you’ll be able to ‘go it alone’ and ride some of the lifts with your children for the rest of the week.
There are family rides using the lifts in Tignes and Val d’Isere, but most of the suitable family riding is around the lake and valley floor. The best bit about these two resorts is that the lift pass is completely free with our Active packs!
Of course the Alps are not all about biking! We offer a whole heap of fun activities that can be enjoyed by all ages. Parents and children can share energising times doing activities together on the mountain. Or if you want a bit of time out from the kids then make use of our free Kids Clubs to drop the kids off and pursue your own mountain biking or activities.
Many activities are free of charge or very low cost and children of all ages can take part in most activities. Almost all the activities come with professional instruction or supervision - giving you the necessary peace of mind. See our individual resort pages for more.
