You can self-drive to all our destinations - and the Alps are closer than you might think. Enjoy a scenic journey through France, avoid airport hassle, and bring as much luggage as you like.

With free parking at all our properties, you can save on flights and travel entirely on your own schedule.

Why Self Drive?

  • Driving is cheaper than flying - Cost of Fly vs Drive
  • You can drive to the Alps in about 8 hours
  • Bring as much luggage as you like
  • Free parking in resort
  • The flexibility of a car in resort
  • Travel on your own agenda (Eurotunnel every 30 mins)
  • Stay an extra day in resort

The same great experience on arrival

Whether you fly or drive, your holiday begins the same way - with a warm welcome and everything ready for your stay. Enjoy the same beautiful catered chalet or hotel, a package of included activities, and the support of our expert mountain team to help you make the most of your time away.

Flexibility, Cost Savings & Lower Carbon Impact

Driving to the Alps is easier than you might think - around eight hours from Calais. Travelling by car means total flexibility: set your own schedule, avoid costly flights and luggage restrictions, and often save money - even with just two people.

What’s more, travelling as a group can be a greener choice. With four passengers in one car, carbon emissions can be reduced by over 65% compared to flying, according to online carbon calculators.

Extend your holiday

Travelling by car gives you the freedom to set your own pace. While our check-in and check-out times are fixed, arriving early or staying an extra night lets you squeeze in one last walk or bike ride before heading home.

A well-placed stopover en route to or from the Alps is also a great way to break up the journey. Enjoy a stay in one of France’s charming château or gîte-style hotels—often great value and a memorable experience. Consider a visit to the medieval town of Troyes or explore the grand Palace of Fontainebleau in Fontainebleau.

Tips for driving

First, we recommend the Eurotunnel. Trains run non-stop and don’t suffer the same delays as flights. It’s also nice to privately shuttle yourself between home and the door of your chalet without coming into contact with a soul, bar a few loo, coffee and croissant stops en-route!

Second, why not try a stopover en route? France is a beautiful country and since you will drive the breadth of it, why not stop for a night at a lively gite or chateaux? You won’t pay UK prices and the kids will love the adventure.

Third, get a ‘bip and go’ electronic toll payment card. It sits on your windscreen and bills you electronically (you have an online account to view transactions) and allows you to drive through the priority lane and dodge the longer queues that the masses wait in. See bipandgo.

Driving to Morzine

Driving through France is a comfortable journey with lots to see and do along the way. It’s not a difficult drive - about 8 hours on the French side - and easy on young travelers with a number of sights and tourist stops.

Continental motorways are fast and traffic free. Fuel is well priced and there’s plenty of service stations with rest areas and play parks for kids to blow off some steam. The tolls are about €60 in total, but if you aren’t in a rush then take the N-roads - this way you’ll avoid the tolls, enjoy even cheaper fuel and see some stunning countryside.

Once in resort, all our properties have ample parking onsite, or close by.

Over 50 Activities To Try

We provide a Free Active Pack for everyone on our holidays, which comes with more than enough free activities (and bike hire) for a week (or two) away. But if you reckon you can cram even more in, our Active Reps will help you book extra activities on arrival.

Which Resort

Tignes

All our resorts are easy to drive to from the UK. For Tignes it takes 9 hours from Calais.

All our resorts are great for families and have a wide choice of free activities. Tignes and Val d’Isere have the most diverse range with summer skiing on its glacier and lots of watersports and somewhat crazy activities around its spectacular lake with a very good sunshine record. These resorts also come with a free lift pass!

Morzine & Les Gets

For Morzine, Les Gets expect an 8 hour drive time from Calais.

Morzine and Les Gets have as many as 80 different activities appealing to all tastes. They are family oriented resorts with world class biking (for all levels) and they attract an eclectic mix of thrill seekers and families as the activities are so wide ranging.
