A guided bike ride is included with all our holidays to Tignes and Val D’Isere, however they can be arranged in Morzine and Les Gets for a small local fee. Our half day rides are led by a professional bike guide or instructor and we run sessions for differing abilities: from beginner and family rides to more adventurous trail rides for confident mountain bikers.
Our guides are expert at what they do and keen to impart tips and advice as you go. One thing’s for sure - whatever your ability - they’ll have you grinning from ear to ear and learning new skills at the same time.
Guided rides run for a half or full day session and we run rides for different abilities, so everyone can ride at their preferred pace. Guided rides are free-and-inclusive for one half-day excursion (per guest) for all Tignes and Val D’Isere guests. In Morzine, Les Gets and Chamonix, our Active Reps can help you book a guide privately, or as part of a group. For a group of 8 to 10 riders, the cost will be from €25-€30 per rider for a half day ride. For 2 riders, the cost will be about €125 per rider for a guided ride.
Guided rides are popular for many reasons: Beginner riders use like to learn how to use the lifts and to get comfortable with the trails. More accomplished riders will pay for a guide to develop their riding or try long-distance cross country tours like the Portes du Soleil circuit.
We offer beginner to intermediate and family rides on the valley floor trails in Val’ and Tignes, but if you’d like to take part in our more adventurous rides, it is recommended that you are comfortable riding dirt trails on a hard-tail bike.
If you are interested in booking a guided ride in Morzine and Les Gets, your Alpine Elements Active Rep or hotel reception can organise this for you. They’ll even try to get a group together to help share the cost and make it a more sociable day out.
If you want to make the most of the mountain biking in resort (using the lifts) and you wish to take part in a guided ride, then we would recommend you rent a full suspension bike for the day, such as the Specialized Enduro Evo or Nukeproof, which we offer using our local (recommended) suppliers. We recommend booking in advance as availability can be limited.
Our guides are expert and semi-professional, certified mountain bike coaches and/or mountain guides. They love their sport, and they like to share the knowledge and impart their technical skill base to any of our guests, especially if you make it known to them that you would like to learn more.
Riding the Alps with a guide is crucial if you would like to gain a true insight into the real potential of any resort and recommended if you are using the lift system as a complete beginner. So much of the best bike terrain is hidden from public maps. Your guide will introduce you to the secret spots that only a local knows and fast-track you to the best riding for your ability. Guaranteed smiles all round!
You are of course welcome to explore the local terrain by yourself, we simply ask that you ride with at least one other person and inform our staff of your intended route and ETA. Using a guide for at least your first half-day riding is a great way to learn about mountain safety and the lifts. We would always recommend this.
