Skiing and boarding on a summer glacier is a wonderful experience and the snow conditions can be just as good as winter! You may not have as many runs open, but it’s less busy than winter - so you have a lot of it to yourself!
It’s almost the perfect ski holiday as you’ll have the most variety! You can pack a lot into your day with a ski or snowboard in the morning (beginners can also get lessons) followed by a resort activity in the afternoon such as tennis... mountain biking... golf... paddleboarding… or just enjoying the sun. Tignes enjoys more than 300 days’ sunshine a year and it’s the perfect family holiday if you like to be active.
4* hotel, right at the base of the glacier lifts.

Learn MoreTignes, is home to the best ski-able glacier in Europe and our Hotel Ski d’Or is very close to the action. In fact it's only 5 mins walk to the funicular lift that accesses the glacier in summer.
The slopesare open from about 8.30am to 3.30pm which is more than enough time to enjoy the snow. There’s up to 30 Km's of slopes open and you’ll have the place to yourself (except at weekends) so the snow can be enjoyed for all levels of skier and boarder, with a snow park and jumps open too.
We think it makes for the perfect balance as you can try another activity in the sun for the afternoon. There’s lots going on in Tignes and most activities are included (for free) on the My Tignes card that we give you.
Expect good quality, hard-packed snow in the morning, which can be icy first thing. The snow warms and softens nicely through the morning which means you don't need to be on that first lift up! Take it easy instead… that’s what summer skiing is all about!
However, it often snows up top (even in July!) and on some days you can get powdery conditions and even off-piste. Generally, the pistes are easy to ride and there is a beginner green area which is large and pleasant for novice skiers, boarders and families to use.
On arrival in the resort, our Active Team can arrange lift pass, lessons and ski or board hire for you. They will help you get fitted for skis, furnish you with a lift pass and get you orientated around the resort - though our hotel is so close to the ski shops and lifts, you’ll not need their help much!
You can choose a package of lessons from one, two, three days (or as many days as you like) with our locally ‘tried and tested’ ski and board schools. Our sales team can help you organise this in advance.
Learning to ski and board in summer is a good time. The slopes are less busy and you don't need so many Kilometres open, so you can save a fortune over learning in winter and frankly skiing and boarding in the sun is a lot nicer!
Tignes’ glacier is the summer home of many top athletes and champions, because of the superb snow conditions. These can vary but expect the following pistes to be open for general skiing and snowboarding, were conditions allow:
Typically, the lifts can be expected to open as follows:
