Val d'Isere

Experts and Kids Love Val d'Isère!

This leading location is not only for the experienced – children and beginners love it too! There are Beginner and Intermediate friendly Green and Red slopes across the area but with 300km of free-riding, steep descents, and plentiful powder, the more advanced can cover plenty of ground, motorway ‘cruising’ or carving down the Boardercross course series of banked corners and humps.

Snowboarding in Val d’Isère is quite highly regarded. Le Fornet is absolutely magical in the powder and offers clean and open powder fields from high up on the glacier.

In the main town, Val d’Isère offers boutique shopping and a vibrant café culture. After a cool day on the slopes, things start to hot up with an early après ski kick off about 4pm in over 50 bars and restaurants. Set in southeastern France just 5km from the Italian border, you can expect some excellent Italian cuisine and French fusion food.

About Val d'isere

The western and central areas of Val d'Isère are most recognizable by their chalet architecture, while in the eastern part of the town modern high-rise architecture dominates. Along with nearby Tignes the area forms part of the Espace Killy ski area, the self-titled "Most Beautiful Ski Area in the World".

The skiing is very suitable to all levels and tastes, it offers an abundance of easy and intermediate skiing all over the resort and even has some easier blue runs right up on the glacier.

The advanced skiers will find many more challenging runs too and some excellent powder runs in this high altitude ski-mecca! The breadth of both the terrain and the nightlife keeps skiers coming back to this renowned resort time and time again.

The Val d'Isère ski resort combines the high-altitude, snow-sure conditions of the huge Espace Killy ski area with more than a soupçon of French style!

Beginner Skiing Val d'Isere

Val d'Isère offers plenty of runs to suit the beginners, or novices, on the lower slopes however, there are also many well linked easier runs up the mountain - so beginners are not just restricted to the nursery slopes.

This also means that beginners aren't stuck near to the resort but can genuinely experience most of what the mountains have to offer.

Val d’Isère is justly famous for its huge network of pistes for intermediates and perhaps the best off-piste in Europe. However, there are areas here suitable for beginners too. From the village there are three free ski lifts (two chair lifts and one drag lift) which are marked black and yellow on the map. These access green runs and will be where your ESF instructor is likely to take you on your first day.

Val d'Isère naturally offers some very good Snowboarding, alongside its world famous skiing. The Fornet area at the top of the valley - and at the base of the Glacier - is unbeatable in the powder and offers summit descents on wide, fast and extremely well kept slopes.

The powder options are also very good and you will still find fresh tracks even days after a dump. Let's not also forget that it also snows very regularly here too - so it's not long between snowfalls!
