Alpine Activities Summer 2020

Read up on each Activity we are offering, and how they will run this summer.

A particular benefit of our activities is that they all take place outside, in fresh air and are led by conscientious instructors and guides who will reduce group sizes and practice safe distancing rules of between 1 and 1.5 metres in line with local guidance. They will also provide protective equipment (masks/gloves) where necessary, particularly on any shared transport.

Certain activities may require ‘closer contact’ or require a partner, and (where possible) these will be organised so that you are teamed up with members from your own ‘Booking Bubble’. That is, your fellow travellers or family members from the same holiday booking.

Your Active Pack

All of our holidays come with a free package of activities for your week away and we will be offering all the inclusive activities in our Active Packs. Read below for individual information on each activity, including extras you can buy in resort.

  • Free Mountain bike rental (road bikes available)
  • Free Whitewater Rafting (or alternative activity)*
  • Free Pedestrian Lift pass
  • Free Guided Walk (professional guide)
  • Free session of paddleboarding or kayaking
  • Free Aquatic Centre Access
  • Free Multipass (resort activities)
  • Free Active Kids Clubs’

*If rafting cannot run, or you prefer not to take part then an alternative activity will be found, or a refund of £30pp.

Whitewater Rafting, Hydrospeeding

Whitewater rafting is included with all our holidays and the rafting company is confident that they can continue to operate in accordance with local rules and guidelines on social distancing. There will be limits set at 6 people to a raft and restrictions on the number of passengers per transfer coach. As a guide, rafts and coaches will run at 50-60% capacity per tour). They will provide protective equipment (masks and gloves) for the short transfer to the activity.

If, however, you feel uncomfortable with taking part in this activity, you may speak to your Alpine Elements rep on arrival to receive a refund (£30 pp) or to take another activity of equivalent value, such as Hydrospeeding or rock climbing.

Canyoning

Canyoning is led by a professional guide and instructor who will be restricting group sizes to 8 per tour and insisting on distancing rules, (1 to 1.5 metres). They are confident they can continue to operate in accordance with local rules and distancing. They will provide protective equipment (masks and gloves) for the short transfer to the activity

You can join a mixed group or request to form a private group made up of your Booking Bubble. In the case of mixed groups, your guide will always insist on distancing rules.

Guided walks, guided bike rides

Our guided walks and bike rides will be restricted to 8-10 per group and masks will be provided. Ski lift ‘uplift’ times may be lengthened, and our highly experienced local guides will adapt walks and rides as necessary.

You can join a mixed group or request to form a private group made up of your Booking Bubble. Especially in the case of mixed groups, your guide will insist on distancing rules of 1 to 1.5 metres (inline with local guidance) and protective masks/gloves will be issued.

Via Ferrata, Rock Climbing & Caving

Climbing and Via ferrata will be restricted to approximately 8 per group, and are led by a professional guide and instructor who will be practicing distancing rules, (1 to 1.5 metres). You can join a mixed group or request to form a private group made up of your Booking Bubble. Either way, these activities will be organised so that you are teamed up with members from your own ‘Booking Bubble’ where possible. That is, your fellow travellers or family members from the same holiday booking.

Protective equipment (masks/gloves and anti bacterial gels) will be provided at all necessary times and contact points

Kids Clubs (4-8yrs)

  • Kids Club will be provided for under 8’s
  • Four sessions a week (ratios: 1 to 6)
  • AM or PM sessions to suit the weather: 09.30 to 12.30, or 14.00 to 17.00
  • Extended childcare session to allow parents to go Rafting

We will be operating to ratios of 1:6 for kids and their activities and where possible have activities to try to maintain social distancing. The majority of activities will be conducted at our main hotels to provide a more controlled environment.

Alpine Elements Kids’ club will run with a minimum of 3 children (and a max of 6). KIds will not mix, but regain in their Kids Club bubble all week. Please pre book your kids club no less than 2 weeks before departure to guarantee a slot.

  • Visual or physical aids will be sanitised before and after use.
  • Each child will have their own arts & crafts, toys or sports kit to use exclusively during club
  • All activities are designed to be outdoors and to limit physical contact.
  • Sanitising hand wipes will be available for all children during club
  •  Staff will always wear appropriate PPE (face masks, gloves where applic)

General safety and operational practices will be implemented in accordance with the new local standards in France.

Biking and Walking / use of lifts

You are of course free to ride our hire bikes and walk or hike the mountain paths and use the liftsystem in accordance with local distancing rules which will be in place, where applicable and managed by the lift operating staff.

Once on the open trails, we will recommend that alpinists respect social distancing if they come across other walkers and bikers. The mountain trails are generally quite quiet and free of traffic (other alpinists), and it is not difficult to exercise care and respect when approaching others.

Horse riding

Horse riding is a solo activity and therefore well suited to social distancing and (like many activities) it is led by a professional guide/instructor who will practice the required distancing rules of 1 to 1.5 metres. Protective equipment (masks/gloves and anti bac gel) will be provided at all necessary times and contact points.

Parapenting

Parapenting is flying a wing above the valley floor. Your instructor is in close contact but protective equipment (masks/gloves and anti bacterial gels) will be provided at all necessary times and contact points.

Tennis, golf, lake swimming, pool swimming, ice skating, luge, etc

The 18 hole golf course (which is excellent) and Morzine’s array of tennis courts and the skate park will be open for guests to visit. You will be required to practice safe distancing when approaching others and users will have limited time (run by the organiser) so courts remain available.

The ice skating rink and open air swimming pool will be open and staff will be insisting the required distancing rules of 1 to 1.5 metres are maintained.

The Luge, Segway

Organised activities like the Luge and Segway rentals where you make your own way there and ‘pay and play’ on arrival will be managed by staff who will be insisting the required distancing rules of 1 to 1.5 metres are maintained.

PPE

Our guests are expected to provide their own PPE for the week, and to take responsibility for its use. For customers' own peace of mind, we advise that you bring portable hand sanitiser, and several changes of mask. At least one mask change per activity session. We will not insist on gloves, but leave that to your discretion.

Taking Responsibility

We expect all our guests to practice safe distancing and make their own judgement as to whether they are comfortable with certain activities and situations, before taking part.

Although our third party activity providers and our hotel staff will monitor distancing rules it is your responsibility to ensure that you adhere and take all precautions to remain safe. You must understand the risks involved and that accidental contact / infringement of the distancing rules can happen at any time, even with the best of intent.

The content of this plan is intended as a guide and will be implemented where possible. There may be further changes to align with changing local standards and laws.
