Alpine Elements 10 point plan for summer 2020

The French Alps are busy getting ready to be open for business this June with a lot of good feeling and positivity from local Tourist Offices, activity suppliers, guides and hotel and restaurant owners. In typical fashion, our mountain friends are all super keen to welcome tourists back to the wide open spaces of the Alps this summer.

The flowers are being planted (by the truck-load!), bars, cafes, chalets and hotels are being aired and reopened; and mountain bike shops gearing up for a glorious summer of sunshine and fresh air.

Our plan to open

At Alpine Elements, we have introduced a plan to open our chalets and hotels from July onwards, and our staff have been waiting in earnest (for too long now!) to make it a very special time for those fortunate enough to be able to travel out to see us. Yes, there will be some changes - though none that we feel will significantly impact your holiday - and in fact, we think the changes will only make it better!

There will be a general capacity restriction, with special focus on transfer coaches, mealtime planning, public areas (lounges), use of hotel facilities and activities planning so that guests can still enjoy the mountain, its open spaces and the very broad range of activities which will be available from late June to September.

Our staff will be rigorously retrained to implement robust new cleaning standards and hotels and chalets will offer the best possible protection against infections during these unusual times.

Hotel organisation

Distancing: In public areas such as lounges and restaurants, all employees and guests will be expected to keep a distance of 1.5 to 2 metres from each other. For example, in our restaurants: A multiple of sittings will enable greater distances between tables and fewer guests in the restaurant at any one time; tables in restaurants will only be cleaned when guests have left them; options for meals to be served as room service. And so on.

Personnel: Staff will work together in fixed teams in order to counter possible infection chains. Where possible, food and beverages will be served to guests by staff wearing protective masks.

Capacity adjustment

Hotels:
Our hotel guest capacities will be reduced; and our great staff will be living in the hotels [residentially], so that we can help maintain standards.

Restaurant & bar:
To limit the number of guests in bars and restaurants. Capacities will be severely reduced. Tables will not be shared by separate bookings and be set at a minimum distance of 1.5 metres apart. We’ll also be trialling alfresco dining where we can. All our hotels have really nice gardens to enjoy warm evenings outdoors.

Extension of service hours:
So that we can provide sufficient distance and space between all guests, the opening hours of restaurants and other hotel facilities will be extended and numbers limited at any one time. Guests will be able to pre book slots in restaurants and leisure facilities with earlier slot-preferences given to families with younger children.

Activities

Enjoying energising activities in fresh mountain air is what it’s all about in the Alps! Our aim is to help guests continue to enjoy its wide, open spaces; take part in organised activities and venture off the beaten track (on two wheels or two feet) to explore this vast mountain playground.

We will be working with our suppliers to only offer activities which involve a small number of participants and without close contact. Group sizes will respect distancing rules (1.5 to 2 metres) and be led by conscientious instructors and guides. Certain activities which may require closer contact will be offered to your ‘Booking Bubble’. That is, your fellow travellers or family members from the same holiday booking.
