If you can ride a bike, then you’ll love the Alps, whatever your ability! In all our resorts, you can enjoy mountain biking a multitude of off road routes along the valley floor and at altitude (using the lifts). The Alps were simply made for biking and all our destinations offer beginner and family trail riding; and of course free bike hire with all our holidays.
There’s a vast array of graded bike trails on offer in all our resorts, which means there’s something for everyone. Many trails use the lift system, so you can cover lots of cross-country miles with consummate ease. In fact, if you really want, you’ll never need to cycle uphill!
You can use one of our free mountain bikes (with front suspension) to explore valley floor trails and some of the gentler Green graded trails (using the lifts). But we’d recommend renting a full suspension ‘Pro Bike’ if biking is a priority for you and you wish to get the most out of your experience.
Families are in for a real treat! Explore a network of alpine tracks and trails that lead through forests, along rivers and even up at altitude (using the lifts). The high altitude lift assisted trails are limited, but the biggest selection are found in Morzine and Les Gets.
The local biking routes (in all resorts) offer a spectacular day out, with lake-side stopovers for lunch and paddle sports or a swim. Families with minimal off-road riding experience can use one or two of the local lifts to explore the easier ’family bike routes’ at altitude.
You can book a mountain guide with our Active team in resort, (which is always recommended), and these expert riders will introduce you to the lift system and some suitable trails for kids as young as 5.
We can organise guided rides with a professional guide and instructor. They can help all levels of rider improve their technique, from green trail beginners to black trail experts. They can offer the perfect introduction to the lifts and trails for beginners or tips on how to ride the terrain for experts, ensuring you don’t get out of your depth and ride safely.
They run for a half or full day session, but we think half a day is enough. Our Active Reps (or hotel reception) will help you book a guide privately or find a group of likeminded riders to join; and share the cost.
Each of our resorts will offer a range of rides to suit children from age 5+, and in Morzine and Les Gets you can even take kids up the lifts for high-altitude rides using the gentlest of trails.
The valley floor trails are better suited for the little ones, and our top-notch Specialized kids bikes (with fat-tyres and disc brakes) are loved by keen 6-9 year old riders.
We will ask that children under the age of 16 are accompanied by a parent or guardian if they would like to ride or take part in guided rides.
Morzine is a mountain bike nirvana. It has the largest network of lifts in the Alps, and unlike other resorts, has an extensive network of beginner trails at altitude so riders are not confined to the valley floor. That means all levels of trail rider can experience the magic of the Alps with its jaw dropping vistas and trails that will improve your skills and thrill you, rather than break you!
A lift pass is from €5 per uplift or €12-15 per day and a full sus’ bike is from €60 a day.
