Self Drive and Save £££'s
Try driving to the Alps this year and save £150 per person for taking a holiday without flights! Save on excess baggage charges and avoid congested airports and long flight delays at this peak period.
Driving to the Alps with a car full is a great way to save £££'s. The drive on the French side is approx 7 hours and fuel is about £1 per litre (exchange rate - 22 July 2010). A ferry when booked in advance with Alpine Elements can cost as little as £19 p/pers return.
Ski New Year
Try a ski holiday this New Year in either one of our catered chalets or ski hotels in the French Alps. New Year is the main celebration of the ski-year, and the local ski resorts always go over board on celebrations! Expect an unforgettable experience for families as well as a party atmosphere that is not to be missed! The ski lifts are open every day - including New Years day.
Ski resorts – as we all know – offer far more than just skiing. And there is no better time to appreciate this than at New Year. Why spend another year in the square in your local town looking at the same old firework display when you can relocate to the Alps and see in 2010 surrounded by snow, native pine trees and chocolate box chalets?
By the end of December all resorts in France will be fully up and running with all lifts open for business. Try Meribel or Courchevel in the Three Valleys for seemingly limitless piste skiing, great for intermediates; or the classic Espace Killy (Tignes and Val D’Isere) where the world class off-piste will allow you to take advantage of New Year champagne powder. La Plagne is fantastic for families and beginners at this time of year. The best snowsure resorts include Chamonix, Tignes, Les Arcs and Val Thorens, where high altitude ensures great quality snow.
During this special season, why not try a new activity on your holiday? Most ski resorts offer tandem parapenting, taking off from lofty heights with your instructor and landing gently on the piste after an unforgettable flight. Alternatively, try skidooing, zipping around the pistes after dark on a kind of jet ski: a great fun group activity.
The festive season is always greeted with lots of fun events on and off the slopes. Tignes is famous for its fantastic lake-side firework display, often featuring chart-topping DJs and bands such as David Guetta and Razorlight. In Chamonix, the main square becomes a hive of activity as locals and holidaymakers alike gather to see in the New Year. Restaurants put on a special menu with up to five courses of Savoyarde and French specialities and plenty of champagne. Or you can enjoy a yuletide dinner in the comfort of your own chalet before heading out to enjoy the festivities. Taking your ski holiday at New Year this year is well worth it as it is an experience you and your family will never forget!
