Morzine

An Alpine Original

Morzine-Avoriaz is part of the huge Portes du Soleil region and aside from being one of the prettiest resorts in the Alps, it’s also one of the liveliest and the largest (size of ski area). It has year-round appeal and many cool bars, great shops and amazing restaurants. It has lots of charm and chalet-style architecture with no highrise blocks, so you’ll love the feel of it.

It’s also the most northern resort in the French Alps and is directly linked with Avoriaz - thus enjoying an excellent snow record for a comparatively moderate altitude. In other words, you don't need to be so high to get good snow! There’s 650 Kms of piste (all on the same lift pass) which spans into Switzerland and makes it the largest linked ski area in Europe. And just fifty miles from Geneva, Morzine-Avoriaz is so easily accessible it has become a favourite from the UK.

  • 650kms of Ski Area
  • Highest Lift at 2402m
  • 162 Blue & Green Runs
  • 106 Red Runs
  • 28 Black Runs
  • 1hr 20mins transfer time
  • 100+ Bars & Restaurants
  • Apres Ski/Amenities

About Morzine-Avoriaz

The Portes du Soleil is the largest linked ski area in Europe. It covers 12 ski resorts (all on the same lift pass) and you can tour around all of them in a day, but get ready for an adventure as you’ll cover 76 Kms of piste! It offers a huge range of skiing across France and Switzerland and with so many pistes, it’s a resort that will keep turning up undiscovered runs the whole week long!

There’s also heaps to do off the slopes, so if you’re a non-skier or would like to try alternative activities, you’ll like the variety on offer which includes snowshoe walks, mountain bike rides, ice diving, swimming, climbing, parapenting, husky rides, devil karts, skidoos and much more.

Activities to do in Morzine

Beginner Skiing Morzine

Morzine (and indeed it's neighbour Les Gets) are especially suitable for beginners, with a very good range of inexpensive children's facilities that help the resort Morzine stand out from the crowd.

The range of kids’ clubs, activies and ski gardens, as well as circuits of gentle ski runs for easy cruising reinforce the kid friendly atmosphere.

Having hardly any drag lifts, (really good for beginners), also makes Morzine a very popular choice for beginner skiers, snowboarders and families.

About the Skiing & Boarding

If you’re learning to ski in either Morzine or Les Gets, you’ve come to the right place. The terrain in this area is perfectly suited to rapid progression, with gentle gradients and wide pistes. The beginners slopes and meeting points are extremely close to the town centre. The ski school we recommend is as highly regarded as the terrain, with an extremely professional outlook, and good English speaking instructors.

Avoriaz (connected to Morzine) was first to host the British Championships way back in the early 90's when tartan trousers, boiler suits and permed hair-styles were cool. Be that as it may, the resort's early adoption of the then unheard-of craze of "snowboarding" has now given the sport real momentum for today's visitors - and the facilities that you will find in the are simply staggering.Families and beginners will feel particularly well served with extremely well maintained pistes, and a well linked network of lifts.

The experts have such a wealth of skiing available to them that it is hard to imagine anyone becoming tired of the Portes du Soleil! Straddling the Franco-Swiss border, with the lift system are especially well planned, allowing quite long distances to be skied.

For all Abilities

Riders of all ability will enjoy the "Star Wars" run that wends its merry way down through the trees to the Ardent bubble, offering plenty of small hits, banks, drops and tree routes for the more gung-ho. The Swiss side also offers excellent riding and skiing and is often the last to get tracked on a powder day. The Mossettes chair accesses the hugely impressive Super Park at les Crossets, however a full area pass will be required. The park is not easy for beginners to access but intermediates and up (4 weeks plus) will love the thrilling ride down and the powder opportunities under the chair lift-line.

Around Morzine

Morzine is a very pretty village with excellent facilities, numerous bars and cafes with boutique shopping to keep the non-skiers entertained. A nice day trip away from the ski fields is to Saint Jean D'aulps.

This charming, almost cute, little resort is part of the same ski area and connected by the area's shuttle bus.

The traditional nature of Morzine is very evident in its facilities, architecture and frendliness, resulting in a very pleasant village to stay in.

Being quite a large summer destination as well as winter mountain resort there is lots to offer almost all year round and, it has the right amount of British prescence.

Socially it is one of the livelier resorts in France, offering late night venues for partying or relaxed drinking and dining venues for the more sedate and family orientated skiers, as well as pizza and other take aways.
