Val d'Isere offers ski holidays at altitude with a range of skiing to suit all abilities. The après ski is world renowned and fortunately so too is its skiing! Our Valdisere Chalets offer value priced and luxury ski holidays to Europe's premier resort
The skiing is very suitable to all levels and tastes, it offers an abundance of easy and intermediate skiing all over the resort and even has some easier blue runs right up on the glacier. The advanced skiers will find many more challenging runs too and some excellent powder runs in this high altitude ski-mecca!
At an altitude of over 3,250, and some very fine Glacier skiing and snowboarding, Val d'Isere links directly with the neighbouring resort of Tignes and enjoys a similar “Super-Resort” status. Tignes and Val D'Isere combined create the excellent Espace Killy ski area which is all included on the standard full area pass.
Skiing in Val d'IsereLike its neighbouring resort of Tignes, Val has some very wide and easy "motorway skiing", with long lasting and highly efficient runs suited to all levels of skier. The lift system is very modern and has an abundance of express chair lifts which will whisk you up the mountain quicker and result in shorter lift queues! See our Ski Holidays Tignes page for more information on the Tignes side of the ski area.
The skiing is suited to all levels and ranges from networks of gentle pistes to the steeper gradient mogul fields and powder runs such as the famous Face, (a black downhill run), and the Epaule du Charvet - another great black descent, and the Arcelle - a super smooth red run!
Snowboarding in Val d'Isere is also excellent. Le Fornet is absolutely magical in the powder and offers clean and open powder fields from right up high on the Glacier - stretching all the way back down to the mid station and then through the trees and back to base level. Those that want to learn to snowboard will also find many well linked, easy trails and more sedate powder descents to have a whirl on. There are fun parks with half pipes and Boarder Cross, and jumps of all sizes so that all abilities are encouraged to "give it a go". See our Snowboarding Holidays Val d isere page for more information.
Val D'Isere offers plenty of runs to suit the beginners on the lower slopes however, there are also many well linked easier runs higher up the mountain too - so beginners are not just restricted to the nursy slopes. There are a few free lifts that beginners can make use of on arrival and so it would be prudent to perhaps buy a pass from in resort rather than before hand.
Val D'Isere is teaming with nightlife! The apres ski kicks off with a thump from about 4pm onwards and offers some very lively and raucious establishments! Then there are late night bars and bar-cum-clubs which stay open until 4am. This resort has over 50-60 bars and restaurants to choose from!

‘Val’ has a well-deserved reputation for both its off piste and its nightlife. The skiing here is epic, with over 400km of piste in the Espace Killy. When it comes to off-piste opportunities, this is possibly the best place in the world for back country freeride. You might get more snow in North America (although famously this was not the case in the 2008-9 season, where Val experienced more powder days than even Whistler!), but the access and scale of the off-piste riding in the Espace Killy is pretty unbeatable.
The resort attracts a variety of visitors, from the super-rich (Richard Branson and U2’s Bono have both been spotted) to the super keen skiers and snowboarders who see the town and the powder as a way of life. The one thing they all have in common is that they keep coming back: Val d’Isere certainly inspires loyalty in its clientele.
At the end of each day, Val’s après ski lives up to its reputation as some of the wildest in Europe. The Lodge and the Saloon bar are both popular with locals as well as holidaymakers, and be prepared, because in Val après-ski starts early and can end up dancing the night away in Dick’s Tea Bar until the small hours.
For something to eat, Val d’Isere can be very expensive, so it is worth staying fully catered in one of the resorts may chocolate box ski chalets. If you do go out, and you’re a carnivore, treat yourself to a steak: the cuts and cooking methods do vary in France, so make sure you ask your waiter for advice, but they are quite reasonably priced and as one of France’s traditional dishes can be truly delicious!
