With excellent facilities for families, a fantastic snow record and some of the best terrain for freestylers and in particular snowboarders in the whole of the Alps, it justifies its place on many must-ski lists.

  • 112 Red Runs
  • 34 Black Runs

Avoriaz is one of the most distinctive Alpine ski resorts you will probably ever visit thanks to its futuristic design and dramatic clifftop location overlooking the neighbouring resort of Morzine.

Situated in the centre of the Portes du Soleil, it falls within the Chablais region of the Haute-Savoie, between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc.

Ski & Boarding in Avoriaz

Avoriaz has 75.5 kilometres of pistes accessed by 17 chairlifts, 2 cable cars and 14 drag lifts. There are 4 green pistes, 25 blue pistes, 14 red pistes and 6 blacks.

The high altitude of most of the pistes means that the snow quality is excellent and lasts right through to the end of April.

Beginners will enjoy learning on this kind of snow, and the gentle, wide slopes are ideal for perfecting those first turns.

Avoriaz for Beginners

Avoriaz is undoubtedly one of the best ski resorts in France for beginners and families. Everything has been carefully planned with beginners and families in mind and the ski-in/ski-out nature of all the Avoriaz accommodation means it couldn't be easier to get to and from the slopes.

Add to this the fact the whole village is pedestrianised with the only traffic being the occassional snow mobile and charming horse and sleigh taxis, which kids will love.

About Avoriaz

Avoriaz was purpose-built at altitude on a slope and offers a true ski-in/ski-out experience, with pistes and lifts criss-crossing the resort. It's also car-free: visitors coming by car either park at the edge of town or underneath it.

And for a major ski resort, it's very compact, with everything you need just a short walk or glide away. Whilst this is wonderfully convenient - it's said that you never have to walk uphill to a ski lift in Avoriaz - there are some drawbacks.

For non-skiers, there is less to do than lower down the valley in Morzine, and prices tend to be higher (although Avoriaz is still cheaper than resorts like Val D’Isere).
