What Kind of Weather to Expect

The weather in the Alps and lakes of Bordeaux can get hot, super-hot, so be prepared!

The French Alps are situated quite a lot further south than people imagine. About 5 to 6 hours south-east of Paris is a good indication, and on the same latitude as La Rochelle. They therefore have excellent sunshine records and during the summer, temperatures can often reach 40 degrees Celsius, with 32 to 34 degrees being a good average to expect. The mountains are quite changeable and their altitude means it’s essential to pack high factor sun cream, as well as a light-mac for rain showers which often pass quickly to make way for sunshine again.

Bordeaux is often referred to as “Hot Bordeaux” and needs little introduction in terms of its warm weather and waters. Pack for the beach and bring a light mac or a few jumpers if travelling in June…

Morzine Weather to Expect

At the far end of this beautiful Savoyard valley, Morzine is next door to Les Gets and this alpine resort receives hot sunshine for much of the summer. The mountains can occasionally bring freak rain showers in June but they tend to be short lived before making way for sun again, so be prepared with a light mac and lots of sun cream. Morzine and Gets offer open air swimming pools and fresh water lakes with sunbathing beaches for swimmers and families. An extensive summer lift system with a great choice of terrain for walkers and bikers make Morzine the premier summer alpine resort with over 70 activities!

Les Gets Weather to Expect

This resort has a northern alpine location and does get a lot of sunshine during the summer months, so again be prepared with plenty of sun cream! Freshwater lakes with sunbathing beaches help u make the most of the excellent weather. And the extensive lift system opens marks Gets and Morzine as the premier summer alpine destination. From families to thrill seekers, young and old - this resort offers over 70 activities!

Tignes Weather to Expect

Tignes is quite a southern resort and has one of the best sun shine records. The resort is situated around a large lake, its centre-point, which is used for watersports and relaxation. Warm temps and lake activities with sun bathing prevail most days of the summer! Tignes gets a lot of sunshine due to its southern alpine location. It also offers the largest variety of sporting activities in the entire Alps, and doorstep skiing on the glacier in the summer months. The height of the glacier also means sun cream is a must!

Val D'isere Weather to Expect

Val D'isere reaches incredible altitudes and so extra special care in the sun is required and use of high factor sun creme a must. Val D'isere is one of the most famous alpine ski destinations in the World and it's summer programme is a real treat! Guests can enjoy a quieter, more exclusive alpine resort compared to it's neighbour Tignes, but with many of the same (free) activities on offer.

Lake Biscarrosse Weather to Expect

With a location in south-west France, only 70 miles (as the crow flies) from Spain, the weather is understandably warm and reliable! It averages 28 to 36° in summer and the water temperature is 26 to 28°.

The hot sunshine is pleasantly cooled with the regular afternoon breeze that picks up after lunch and comes across the lake so enabling beach lovers and water sports enthusiasts an easier time of it all.

The morning often starts with a very gentle breeze (Force 1-2) and flat-calm waters; perfect for water skiing or kids to get afloat and beginners to learn to sail or windsurf. Most days the afternoon wind will build slowly after lunch to bring a Force 2-4 breeze and an added factor-of-fun for sailors and kitesurfers alike.
