With over 650kms of piste in the area, Morzine-Avoriaz and Les Gets is the largest ski and snowboard area in the World, and offers some truly great skiing and boarding for families and groups of friends. The area spans over twelve separate ski stations and the mass of inter connecting ski slopes will have you finding new runs you have never tried before, even after weeks of touring! The facilities and nightlife are almost unrivalled and with floodlit skiing, this resort puts most major European and American resorts to shame! See our Rock on Snowboard Tour special
Morzine and Avoriaz are two of the most northerly located resorts in the French Alps. Not only does this give a short 1 hour transfer from Geneva, but it also means the resort gets lots of snowfall! aPlus the abundance of north facing slopes means the snow always lasts until May.
Avoriaz (connected to Morzine) was first to host the British Champs way back in the early 90's when tartan trousers, boiler suits and permed hair-styles were cool. Be that as it may, the resort's early adoption of the then unheard-of craze of "Snowboarding" has now given the sport real momentum for today's visitors - and the facilities that you will find are simply staggering.
Riders of all ability will enjoy the "Star Wars" run that wends its merry way down through the trees to the Ardent bubble, offering plenty of small hits, banks, drops and tree routes for the more gung-ho. The Swiss side also offers excellent riding and skiing and is often the last to get tracked on a powder day.The Mossettes chair accesses the hugely impressive Super Park at les Crossets, however a full area pass will be required. The park is not easy for beginners to access but intermediates and up (4 weeks plus) will love the thrilling ride down and the powder opportunities under the chair lift-line.
It is the resort’s suitability to beginners and the range of inexpensive child facilities that really stand Morzine and Les Gets out from the crowd. The range of kids’ clubs and ski gardens, as well as circuits of gentle runs for easy cruising, and hardly any drag lifts, (great for beginners), make it a very popular choice for beginner skiers, boarders and families.
Morzine is a traditional, and very popular resort. Its pretty streets are packed full of shops, cafes and bars for all tastes and the local cuisine is superb. If you still feel up for a spot of night riding, the floodlit slopes are open until late (approx 10pm) on a Wednesday and/or Thursday. For good cooking and friendly staff try the Etale or Clin D'Oiell, and for a more lavish affair - La Grange is excellent for a long mid-week dinner, definitely one of our favourites.
