Ski Kitzbuhel

If you have just mastered skiing then Kitzbuhel is a perfect resort for you. With it’s variety of  lovely cruising blue runs and gentle reds you will have a lot of fun.

kitzbuhel skiLocated in the Tyrolean ski area in Austria, it’s very accessible being only 80km from Salzburg Airport and 100km from Innsbruk. The ski area is of average size covering Pass Thurn, Jochberg, Hollersbach and Kirchberg,  giving you plenty to do in a week.

Although the resort is quite low at 800m  with the top lift taking you to 2000m, they have the snow making facilites to cover nearly half the 163km of available piste.

However when the snow is dumping down you can have some serious fun. The off-piste terrain here is fantastic, particulary over at Pass Thurn.

The Hahnenkamm is a the famous downhill course for world cup skiing, advanced skiers definitely need to experience this truly amazing run at some point in their skiing lives! Another run to get to grips with if you want a real challenge is The Mausfelle which will certainly earn you kudos later on in the bar.

If you are a beginner ski enthusiast then this may not be the resort for you. Although there are lovely blue runs (22 in total) many of these are only accessed by reds. If you are comfortable on reds then you’d be hard pushed to find a better resort  - you have 7 peaks to cover with stunning alpine views.

Family ski holiday bookers will also find this resort very well suited to their needs with  an excellently equipped children’s ski park at the base of the Hahnenkamm lift.

Boarders will enjoy the off piste potential and the natural half pipe but may get a little frustrated by quite a few flattish sections.

The resort it self is a glamorous destination with  vast array of designer shops in the medieval town centre -  furs and handbags seeming to take priority . The nightlife has a good vibe with a wide choice of 42 bars and restaurants with typical Austrian fare. Prices are pretty good , with the local drink ‘jagatee’ (tea and rum) costing around 3 euros.

New lifts have been constructed over the last few years which have helped enormously with the problematic queues, although the popular Hahnekamm gondola still gets very busy between 9am and 11am.

So to summarise, this well-liked Austrian town with it’s lively nightlife and good selection of intermediate runs makes it a haven  for skiers and families. Boarders may find the park a little inconvenient and the super advanced may need more of a challenge but all in all it’s a very well rounded resort.
