Isola 2000 is a unique ski resort, located only 90 minutes from the Mediterranean sea. Its high altitude assures great snow conditions, but in April you can have a twin centre holiday with both snow and sunny beaches! The resort understandably gets alot of sunshine and remarkably good snow conditions for its altitude, rather similar in conditions to Alpe dhuez ski holidays - a resort which is renowned for the fact that locals believe it to have over 300 days sunshine a year!
The resort is part of the ‘Parc National du Mercantour’, and its ski area is great for adrenaline junkies, with a half pipe, snow park and boardercross alongside 120km of slopes and 22 lifts. The resort is also superb for beginner ski and intermediate skiers, with plenty of wide, cruising blue and red runs. Any non-skiers can take the Pélevos cable car to an altitude of 2320m and enjoy a panoramic view of the resort.
In the evenings, you can enjoy excellent value eating and drinking, very cheap in comparison to many French resorts. For meals out we would recommend Le Crocodile, Le Cuban Cafe, La Raclette, La Marmotte and Le Rendez - Vous. This is not a huge party resort, but there are several nice bars for a quiet evening drink.
As well as the great skiing, this is an area of outstanding natural beauty and has been a nationally protected area since 1979. The park stretches over 685km and is famous for its flora and fauna. Whilst the ski resort of Isola 2000 is purpose built for convenience, you can also visit the traditional village of Isola, 17km away, and see the old buildings and church tower. This really is an area offering much more than just skiing!
