For those skiers and snowboarders concerned about booking what seems like a long way ahead, and are concerned about the possibility of poor snow conditions, the answer is to concentrate your attention solely on the high altitude resorts, and those lower lying ones with good snow records. The main French ski areas of Paradiski, Espace Killy, Trois Vallees, Portes du Soleil and Chamonix-Mont Blanc, and Austrian resorts like St Anton can offer a genuine snow guarantee because of both their excellent snow records and unparalleled snow making networks. The snow-friendly lower resorts, such as Sainte Foy, should also be considered because the majority of their slopes are not south facing, and are thus able to keep their snow not only for longer but also in better condition.
Well before Christmas the 2012 ski season was already seeing very strong bookings, with some popular dates and chalets selling out earlier than they had in 2011 season. As a result, those looking for late ski bookings in 2012 may be disappointed, finding that the type of chalet they wanted is now unavailable, or even that their preferred resort is booked to capacity. In past seasons it has been a popular option to leave booking until the very last minute, however 2012 saw a movement in the amount of ski chalets available, resulting in some seasoned late bookers being disappointed; it looks as if 2013 will see this trend continue. The recent superb snow falls have also done their part to increase demand, and drastically reduce the number of ski chalet holidays available to late bookers. Using this season as a measure: If you know your preferred resort and which type of chalet the recommendation has to be that you grab the Earlybird discounts, liftpass deals and other offers as soon as they become available. This is probably the best way to guarantee the chalet you want, in the resort that you want, at the price that you want!
