The pretty, traditional village of Tignes Les Brevieres is a beautiful and unintimidating setting in which to learn to ski. There is a free nursery slope in Brevieres itself (with a chair and a drag lift) and, as this is a quieter area of Tignes, you are less likely to run into boisterous fast skiers bombing past you at the end of the day. This is also a good area for young families to practice their skiing together.

In Tignes Le Lac and Val Claret, there are three free lifts for your first day or so of lessons. One of these is right next door to the Alpine Elements Chalet Névé. After this you’re likely to want to progress up onto the mountain, and your ski instructor may well take you on the ‘Palafour’ blue run, which is a great gentle introduction to longer runs and slightly more challenging terrain. Later in the week more confident beginners may wish to try the slopes in the Tignes – Val D’Isere valley: these slopes are high and in a great setting, but you will need to splash out on an area lift pass for a couple of days to access them. I think you’ll agree it’s well worth it!
