Les Arcs is a huge resort with over 250km of piste, even more if you include La Plagne, which is lift-linked via the impressive Vanoise Express. Alpine Elements chalets are located in Les Arcs 2000, and from here beginners can try the long green run down to Les Arcs 1950 and then catch the free ‘Cabriolet’ lift back up to 2000. There is also the ‘St Jacques’ lift, which is not free but can be paid for individually and is very reasonably priced at only 3€ per journey (2009 prices).

LESSON LEVELS Levels Ski Descriptions Snowboard Descriptions Beginner Never skiied before Never snowboarded before Level 1 Snow-plough turns on blue slopes Intermediate - basic turns on slopes Level 2 First parralell turns on blue & red slopes Advanced - perfecting technique & introduction to freestyle Level 3 Parallel turns on red & black slopes Freeride - carving, freeride & freestyle
For those wanting to progress onto their first blue runs, the ‘Cascades’ piste which snakes down to Arcs 1950 is a long, winding and relaxed blue with great views. After you’re grown in confidence (perhaps after the third or fourth day of your lessons) you’ll be able to ski over to Arc 1600 and 1800 via the network of gentle blue runs, and then back to Arc 2000, all on quite easy terrain. For this you will need a Les Arcs lift pass, but with the encouragement of your instructor you’re sure to get the most out of it.
