La Plagne, with its wide open pistes and fantastic mountain scenery, is a great place to learn to ski. In Plagne 1800, where the majority of Alpine Elements La Plagne chalets are located, there is one free drag lift on the very gentle and short ski slope at the bottom of the village. After the first few days, you’ll want to progress onto longer green and blue runs, for which you will need a local La Plagne lift pass. Great runs to progress onto first are the long green which snakes through Plagne Centre, and then the network of blue runs above and around Belle Plagne. The easiest blue run in the area is called L’Arpette, above Belle Plagne, which is long, wide and in a stunning setting.
With the new style of ‘carving’ skis making turning much easier, most skiers will progress onto blue runs within their first week of lessons with the experts ESF. You will learn to use the equipment first, and then how to make basic turns, quickly moving onto stem turns on steeper ground. The more confident beginner might even consider buying a ‘Discovery’ lift pass, allowing them to follow the blue run itinerary over to Les Arcs: a fantastic culmination to a week learning to ski or snowboard.
