The skiing in Chamonix is world renowned for being nothing short of excellent! 90% of the slopes are above 2000 metres and there is an abundance of North facing slopes to ensure good snow. Despite its mountaineering history, Chamonix is not an extreme resort and beginners are well provided for with one of the best ski schools and ski lessons in France. As an intermediate you will find terrain to push your abilities along very rapidly. It is often said that to spend a week in Chamonix will advance your skills in double quick time!
It is the Off Piste and advanced level skiing that also makes Chamonix stand out from the crowd. The area can be incredibly thrilling to ski or ride either with a guide or exploring the local area under your own steam. For any serious skier, the famous Vallee Blanche run should be high on your agenda and we can help you organise a mountain guide.
It is important to remember that to take a week skiing holiday in Chamonix is a truly great experience and can be enjoyed just as much by beginners as well as the experts.
Although Chamonix is steeped in mountaineering history it is not an "extreme" ski resort! There is an expansive network of excellent beginner slopes in the area that actually makes Chamonix one of the best ski areas for beginners. In fact Chamonix has some of the best nursery slopes that we have seen up in Le Tour. There are also plenty of easy progressive runs to allow beginners to get out and explore the higher slopes in the area. The Ski and Snowboard school of Chamonix is also known for being very efficient, and is one of the best around. See our beginner ski page for more information.
Chamonix is of course just as good for the snowboarders as it is for the skiers. Beginners or expert riders will relish the excellent facilities of Chamonix.
Chamonix is a very large and interesting mountain resort, with hundreds of bars, shops and cafes. There is as much to do off the mountain as there is for the skiers on the mountain! The nightlife is excellent and the whole Chamonix experience is one not to be missed! See our ski breaks for week and weekend stays.

Chamonix is split into 3 main ski areas, which does indeed put some people off. However the experience of Chamonix is unbeatable and should be done by every aspiring skier or snowboarder.
The best (and largest) ski satellite of Chamonix is the one that is on the doorstep of Alpine Elements Hotel Boule de Neiges - this is Flegere/Brevant. The other 2 ski areas (La Tour & Argentiere) are a short Navette ride away and generally people go there for a day, and it makes for quite a nice experience as you are effectively skiing a new ski area and tend to make the most of it.
You can also ski a 4th great little ski area called les Houches. In fact it is not so little. Les Houches is now linked with St Gervais (and Megeve) and offers lots more great skiing
The Cham' valley does offer a huge amount of excellent skiing for low Intermediates and up. In fact some of the best Intermediate skiing I have seen. It offers more variety than most resorts and the combined Cham' valley gives almost 500 kms of slopes!
Things to try:
The Casserole (Pot Savoyard) in a restaurant called La Caleche in Chamonix pedestrianised centre and approx 4 mins walk from our chalet and hotel. Also try Munchies (another great restaurant in Rue Moulin).
For skiing then of course you must do the Vallee Blanche with a guide, this is really for intermediates and above but is not a difficult ski for most who have done 4-5 weeks on snow. And the tree runs up at Vallorcine (La Tour)
