Try a Ski holiday this February or March in a Premium French ski resort at very discounted prices! February is undoubtedly the most popular month of the year for skiing in France. Excellent snow conditions and more hospitable temperatures than January combine with UK half-term and the month long February holidays in France.
What you want in a February ski holiday is a ski area with wide open pistes and plenty of space for everyone. Good resorts to try are Tignes, with its vast network of well-pisted blue and red runs; or Courchevel, where the quieter village of 1650 offers enjoyable skiing in stunning scenery away from the crowds. If you are an off-piste aficionado, Chamonix is worth a visit in February – the school children will stay on the ski runs leaving you to enjoy the powder in relative peace. Alternatively, head for the little-known resorts of St Foy in the Tarantaise, or La Rosiere, near Les Arcs, where you’ll be away from the bustle of the big resorts and free to enjoy the setting and the skiing with your friends and family.
One thing which is very important to remember in February is that ski schools will get booked out fast, and ski hire shops may run out of equipment. It is vital to pre-book any of these extras that you require, and make sure your booking agent knows your level of skiing ability, as they can’t book you into a class without knowing your level. With a little bit of foresight, all potential pitfalls of February skiing are easily avoided and can actually save you money, as the exchange rate is favourable to buying in sterling at the moment.
Skiing in February ensures you’ll be surrounded by like-minded people, and as this is peak season they’ll be lots of events in resorts to entertain the whole family. All lifts, snowparks and ski areas will be up and running and resort staff will have settled into their jobs ensuring the service you receive is impeccable.
Skiing in the peak season of February is not all about lift queues and crowded ski slopes! The school holidays run for 1 week (2 weeks max) and this is always in the middle of February. The early and late weeks of Feb can actually be surprisingly crowd free and refreshingly cheap, with some good deals on offer - particularly because many people incorrectly perceive the whole of Feb to be a "school holiday month" and steer clear as a result. In fact all this does is clog up the slopes in March and drive early March prices skyward!
Our Advice is to book a ski holiday on February the 5th or Feb 19th week for a great deal with peak season snow quality and warmer skies!
