EASTER SKIING
At Alpine Elements - we operate in the "better-known" resorts with high altitude slopes and the promise of excellent snow coverage and facilities, so you can be assured that the lifts and runs will still be fully open and skiing exceptionally well in April.
At this time of year, the snow falls into what is known as a freeze-thaw pattern. This means that the snow freezes overnight, and is quite hard in the morning, so great for carving those turns. By about 10:30am, the snow will have softened into perfect conditions, which are maintained until around 3pm when the rising temperatures can cause things to get a little slushy: just in time for that afternoon beer in the sun.
There is a great atmosphere in ski resorts in April: the pistes are usually less busy and the bars and restaurants less rammed full, but there will be a lot going on with all the end of season closing parties and BBQs. You can even grab yourself a bargain in the end of season sales and pick up some new skis or a snowboard for a great price.
Top Ski Resorts for Easter:
First and foremost is Tignes, for its high altitude and guaranteed snow. Tignes skis well in summer (July to August up on the Glacier) - so Easter certainly shouldnt be a problem!
Val Thorens (linked with Meribel and Courchevel), is another high altitude ski area which is linked to the vast Three Valleys network - and offers miles and miles of quality skiing and guaranteed snow.
Val D’Isere is wonderful for high slopes, glacier skiing and a lovely Easter atmosphere. Not to mention the the glamourous party life, cafe culture and ritzy atmosphere.
Always try Les Arcs 2000, where the town is at such a high altitude that conditions are always good! In fact the off piste is truly superb and this resort gets heaps of quality snow late on in the season.
Don't forget La Plagne which is another high one with doorstep Easter skiing to our chalets at 1800 and 2000 metres. La Plagne is a true family favourite with suitable skiing for all levels.
For something different, Chamonix also has very high altitude snow and also other activities if you are a non skier or fancy something different. Chamonix at Easter will allow you to ski or snowboard and also to take part in activities such as valley hiking, mountain biking or rock climbing.
