CHRISTMAS SKIING

Our Catered Chalets are decorated with festive cheer, and a feast is served for Christmas and New Year! They provide a magical environment for families, friends and children to feel truly involved in the spirit of Christmas.

To Ski New Year and Christmas has always been the ideal time for a ski holiday. Why sit at home dreaming of a white Christmas when you can take a short flight and experience one for real instead? Why toil for hours over Christmas dinner only to have your 5-year-old complain they don’t like sprouts/stuffing/turkey, when you can fly away to your dream alpine destination and allow someone else to worry about cooking times and children’s fads?

A ski chalet holiday at Christmas time is the stuff of dreams. Snow falling gently outside the chocolate box chalet, perhaps a log fire or a champagne toast and canapes before dinner…presents under the Christmas tree (the one you didn’t have to buy and won’t have to lug to the recycling depot next week)…and, of course, powder snow and acres of excellent skiing.

SNOW SURE CONDITIONS

Many people think December is too early nowadays to be guaranteed excellent snow, but in fact, December 2008 gave us some of the best conditions of last season. It is worth going for a more snowsure resort, such as Tignes, Val D’Isere, or Chamonix, where the slopes will be nicely covered by mid December. The Christmas holidays are undoubtedly a popular time in ski resorts, but it is nowhere near as busy as the February skiing holidays, so you can enjoy skiing in more peace.

THINGS TO DO

Christmas ski holidays certainly provide a lot to do both on and off the piste. Most resorts have a lot of events going on over the festive period: you can watch a torchlit descent or a children’s lantern procession on Christmas eve and enjoy fantastic firework displays to bring in the New Year. Chamonix’s New Year celebrations in the square are the stuff of Alpine legend, and Tignes always puts on an excellent display of fireworks by the lake.
