Overview (Click for Chamonix Deal)
Chamonix really needs no introduction as Eurpoe's largest alpine mountain resort, the services and the facilities of Chamonix are really rather good. Mont Blanc is Europe's highest mountain and Chamonix is the most talked about and internationally recognised mountaineer's resort in the world. It has some of the most heart pumping bike trails anywhere in France, set under Europe's highest mountain, with amazing views of Mont Blanc.
Chamonix is the most vibrant mountain town in the world, it is easily accessed from Geneva airport (1 hour) and provides excellent all round biking for XC and Freeride enthusiasts, specialising in technical singletrack. The nightlife is superb and the town has a great deal of entertainment on tap.
XC Riding
Intermediates and Advanced riders will find unrivalled technical singletrack, quite steep in places and switching back down the mountain to create fairly long rides. Lots of slow almost trial-like riding is also in the area. If you enjoy high intermediate and advanced technical and steep singletrack then this is the place!
The abundance of pine forest and long descents suit the intermediate to advanced single track rider and Freerider. These range from the not-so-steep to the very steep rated descents again suiting most levels of rider.Very long 2 hour descents and technical descents are possible.
DH Riding
A small amount of well thought out Downhill courses and Jump parks will keep your DH appetite at bay. However, Chamonix majors on singletrack and technical freeride, so do not come here if you are a DH nut wanting man made banks and berms only.
Chamonix has good singletrack and smooth Canadian style boulders with potential for rock drops to spice up that Freeriding! The area has some nice flowing single track which is further boosted by incredible views over the mountains and valley below.
Beginners to Advanced
Although Chamonix is deemed to be an expert resort due to the presence of the Mont Blanc Massif and it's roots in mountaineering history, it would be very short sighted to regard it as an "experts-only" resort for bikers!
Chamonix has something to offer the beginner riders too. It is true that there is an abundance of intermediate and expert rated rides, however there are many beginner trails up at Le Tour and in Les Houches and on the Valley floor to keep all levels of rider entertained for days.
Resort Life
Chamonix is a lively resort for bikers and alpine enthusiasts. There is an eclectic mix of Mountain bikers, climbing mountaineers and family tourists in the resort, which help to make it a very interesting and diverse place to stay. The night life and cafe culture is excellent and without a doubt offers some of the best dining of any French resort.
