Winter X Games break

Winter X Games break

X Games TignesESPN’s famous X Games make their first foray into Europe for the Winter X Games, Tignes. After 13 Winter X Games ’The Winter Olympics for the rest of us’ (to mis-quote Apple Computer) finally crosses the Atlantic. This should be an incredible event, with top extreme Skiers and Snowboarders drawn to the Espace Killy.

Snowmobile X GamesApart from the Snowboarders and Skiers in the Super Pipe and Slopestyle comps there’s also a killer snowmobile freestyle demo planned; if flying Moto-Xers floats your boat then this is a must to see first-hand. I mean – back-flipping a Snowmobile!

Levi LaValee will be at Tignes, and  he’s won the X Games Snowmobile title three times already. Genuinely Awesome!

Tignes and Snow Park Technologies have been working the since early summer to get the course ready for the first snow falls. By the lok of it they’ve succeeded.

X Games Tignes SuperpipeThe Super Pipe is aptly named: 220m long, 18m wide and up to 6m high. That’s nearly twice as long as a standard halfpipe and 50% higher. The sort of playground that Xavier Bertoni and Sarah Burke (both X Games 2009 Superpipe Gold Medallists) should really enjoy. Later in the season the Superpipe will be cut back a little bit, to a standard length – then you’l be able to ride it yourself!

X Games Slopestyle CoursThe Slopestyle course (next to Val Claret’s Double M chairlift) is well over half a kilometre long, and drops nearly 200m. There will be table tops, rails (up to 12m long) and big air obstacles dotted over the slope. The pictures just don’t do it justice.

Other riders already confirmed include the 6’ 2” Norwegian Mikkel Bang (2009 X Games Bronze, who’s just signed to Nike 6.0), Mathieu Crépel (double World Champion – Big Air and Half Pipe), and Torah Bright (a Big Air winner already in 2010, twice X Games Gold winner, and 2006 Olympian).

Fancy hangin’ out at the one and only X Games? We have Chalets still available in Tignes. Not only do you get the 2010 Winter X Games, but there’s 300 kms of pistes, two snowparks, six slalom courses and the whole Espace Killy area goes up to 3450m!
