The winter ski season began in October for Tignes, after only a brief respite since closing down from the resorts busy summer ski season. Tignes is officially the most snow sure place to ski and ride in Europe during the summer months – alongside a handful of other equally high ski resorts.
Unsurprisingly the winter ski season, which has already seen high levels of snowfall across the Alps, is shaping up well in Tignes. Skiing is already open down to the funicular at the base of Val Claret and much more of the resort is already offering great snow conditions whilst the glacier skiing is simply mind blowing with all the recent powder-snow which is up there!
Bookings-wise, it is fair to say that Tignes ski holidays are not filling as fast as some resorts this year – because the snow is good all over the Alps, and a resort such as this which commands a bit of a premium for its high altitude status is therefore not in such high demand.
Nevertheless the premium is not that expensive for what is still regarded as one of France’s best ski areas and in fact Top 5 according to the Daily Telegraph. With 300+kms of pisted trails not to mention the Off Piste on top of that – it isn’t hard to see why Tignes is still one of the most popular winter ski destinations for package holiday skiers.
