Watch the Holmenkollen Ski Jump being built. It’s not every day that a new, world class, ski jump is built. Oslo’s Holmenkollen Ski Jump is having a retro-fit, with the new Jump (on the Midstuen hill) set to open for testing later in 2010. Those friendly Norwegians have installed a webcam so that we can all watch as the final section of the jump – a mere 120 tons and 38 metres long – is carefully inched into place. At least it will be unless the wind is over 6km/h. Given the bad weather that northern UK has been suffering there is a chance of a slight hiatus if the gods start to blow.
The area played host to much of the 1952 Oslo Winter Olympics. There’s even a Holmenkollen Ski Jump online game, courtesy of the Norwegian Tourist office. Have a go – no winter insurance necessary!
