Apparently you can definitely have too much of a good thing. Centred on Aviemore, the Cairngorms Ski Centre has seen it’s funicular buried in parts by up to 15 feet of drifting snow, with just the tops of some lift towers visible. This follows two days of blizzard, during which the centre has utilised snow blowers, Piste bashers and other tracked vehicles in an attempt to keep the slopes open, and the skiers coming.

This is particularly annoying for the centre’s operators as they have just experienced their best Christmas visitor numbers for 14 years. All of the snow clearing work carried out on Thursday has been filled in overnight. The centre’s website is the place to check for updates, however, they have posted that the chances of any winter sports taking place on their slopes this weekend is highly unlikely.
