A project to develop a new ski area in Scotland that was first considered during the 1980s, is being dusted off. Glencoe opened it’s slopes to the public before Christmas – the earliest for 10 years (see picture). The then Conservative Government shelved plans which would have seen a new ski area on the 1,046m high Ben Wyvis mountain. An excellent 2009/10 ski season coupled with a good start to this one has helped MSP Jamie Stone (Liberal Democrat) to convince the Scottish government that the project may be worth resurrecting. One source of opposition may be that the area is, in part, within a national nature reserve.
