Morzine sits smack in the centre of one of France’s most popular ski areas – the Portes du Soleil. With direct access to over 650 kms of piste, sitauted just 1 hour from Geneva and in lovely pretty surroundings – it isn’t hard to see why this place is so popular!
Snowsure
Morzine is directly linked to the high altitude resort of Avoriaz which guarantees good skiing until mid April. The extensive ski area also ensures many miles of good snow will be found ; however some of the lower connecting runs can reduce ones ability to easily access the whole area without using Navettes (buses) from mid April. Morzine and les Gets have a good stock of snow canons and so snow is always catered for and with artificial snow being more dense than the real thing – the skiing is somewhat better than other resorts who are afraid to use their canons!
The Portes du Soleil is also the most northerly resort in France and so tends to get higher levels of precipitation / snowfall than most central and southern alpine destinations.
Skiing
The skiing in the immediate area is perfect for beginners and Intermediates. The wider area has great opportunities for advanced skiers and those who like covering many miles of terrain for their skiing holidays! Try the Star Wars run down from Avoriaz to the bubble lift at Ardent for a crowd free tree lined descent – winding down the mountain. It is blu graded, although has harder sections towards the bottom. But this is a great run!
Snowboarding
The snowboard parks are very well catered for (6 in total) and the area has 2 half pipes, beginner parks at Les Gets and a Jib park in the trees at Avoriaz. Boarder X tracks are also present and this is a resort that you could say caters for the boarders a little bit better than most!
Resort Life
A very friendly and charming resort where the locals are welcoming and the beer not too expensive. Late night bars, chilled our cafes, a night club or three and good shopping too. Lovely chalet-style architecture and cheaper than normal resort prices for ski extras too.
