In a whirlwind three days, Lindsey Vonn has taken an unbeatable lead in the FIS World Cup series. On Sunday she beat fellow American Julia Mancuso in the Super Giant Slalom held on the Di Prampero course at Tarviso, Italy. It was almost a USA 1, 2, 3 except that Maria Reisch edged out Laurenne Ross for third place. Earlier in the weekend Vonn made sure of the downhill and Super Combined titles too, with a pair of second place finishes. The Super-G result put her 171 points clear, with six more World Cup races before the 2010/11 race season finishes. This dramatic return to winning ways follows her decision to [pull out of the World Championships as the result of a severe concussion she took during training.
Vonn is just 96 points behind Maria Riesch (Germany) for the overall World Cup champions title. The German increased her lead this World Cup weekend with The World Cup Slalom and Giant Slalom are still up for grabs, however Vonn is not involved in the tustle for these titles. She needs another 21 World Cup wins to equal the all-time record holder, Annemarie Moser-Proll, who accumulated 62 golds.
