The FIS have just announced that their new Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined websites are now online. These join their existing Alpine and Cross Country sites, and in some respects better them. There’s a huge amount of information, with videos, and some darned nice pictures.
Having been less than impressed by the FIS Live Timing mobile site I was doubtful about the new FIS Ski Jumping site. However, I was quite surprised as it looks pretty fine – a bit more coherent and slightly easier to use than the Alpine
site. The Nordic Combined site is equally good, and doesn’t get as ‘over-excited’ as the Alpine version..
Have you ever wondered how on earth they can accurately judge the distance a competitor has jumped? Check out the new FIS Ski Jumping website and all will become clear. You’ll also learn how Roar Ljoekelsoey is reckoned to have jumped/flown 227 metres! There’s even a webcam (from those nice people at Berkutschi), currently pointing at the Lilehammer Ski Jumping hill.
According to FIS, Snowboarding is the next discipline due for an online make-over. I wonder if they’ll bring over the extremely scary Kornspitz Ski Jumping game. When I say scary, it’s not the action that leaves an odd feeling in my stomach, but the weird characters in the crowd.
