Chamonix’s weird week…

Chamonix’s weird week…

You never know what you’re going to see during après time in Chamonix. Of course, there’s usually quite a few people dancing on the tables in their ski boots in Chambreneuf. And some more sophisticated folk (like my mate Dom Briand) enjoying a vin chaud and soaking up the atmosphere at the outdoor après bar, bar L’M. And you can pretty much guarantee it’s going to be heaving. But Chamonix’s really good at surprising you with totally random but not unenjoyable stuff – like the other day, when I was walking to work, and there was a giant parade going on, with a very weird but pretty likeable 1970s Caribbean/funk/soul/marching band. And two giant puppets that looked a bit like the rugrats…strange, but cool!

It’s the ‘black weekend’ at the moment here too, a big event put on by Black Crows skis – you can test the skis yourself every day up at Grand Montets and there are some pro riders showing you how it’s done, plus loads of djs and clubnights.

We had some snow on the mountain last night, so despite being a bit foggy there is some powder up there, fingers crossed for clear skis tomorrow so we can all start making the most of the snowfall. The best snow at the moment has to be in Cormayeur, where they had a hugggeee dump this week. That snow also looks like it’s headed Chamonix way, as our bread man (aka the oracle on weather in Chamonix) informed us last night…

Biggest fail of the week has to go to Olly, who hurt his neck coming off a kicker at Grand Montets yesterday. He’s feeling very sorry for himself and is signed off work for a week…oh dear. The lesson from this one is definitely not to ride in the park when you’re hungover after a bit too much St Paddy’s day merriment.

Check out this picture of the moon last night – as we were walking home we noticed it looked all spooky – not sure if I’ll ever win photographer of the year but you get the idea…

So, who’ll be the next person to get injured? what random events will happen in our beloved Cham

next week? Will Olly make a speedy recovery? Will there be any more weird puppet men roaming the streets? Stay tuned to find out!

Heather xx
