Went skiing at Flegere today, with the 20cm of snow we had over the weekend the hill looks lush, it’s so nice to see all the pow pow again! After an unsettled start to the week, it was glorious sunshine today – perfect! This is a busy week for everyone and we’ve all been pulling together to make sure our half term guests have a fab time, so it was great to get up on the hill and remember the best thing about living in the Alps.
Chamonix is pretty banging at the moment (our newest member of staff, Josh, was introduced to the legendary après ski at Chambreneuf yesterday – dancing on the tables at 5pm – yes please!) and the town has a really good atmosphere. The BDN bar is, of course, the best place to be – we’ve had some cracking regulars this week including a group of 6 Irish ladies, aged 60 plus, who were getting chatted up by some twenty something Austrian lads last night! I hope I still have their ‘anything goes’ mentality when I’m older!
After the raucousness of last week, with our 15 strong stag party, this week seems a lot quieter in the hotel as we welcome the families enjoying some skiing in their half term break. That’s what I love about this job – every week is so different! I’m not sure there’s any other industry where on any given day you can be…
Skiing
Chatting to some crazy Austrian dudes in the hotel bar
Making some fajhitas for the rest of the bdn team
Going to get candles for a guest’s birthday cake
Giving recommendations to guests about the best places to ski
Having a good old chinwag with the baker and enjoying some free samples!
Brainstorming with the chef about new recipe ideas
Generally running around the resort like a loon making sure everyone is OK
Enjoying a well deserved vin rouge at the end of the night….
Like I say, one of the most varied jobs in the world! As I write this, I’m looking out of the window at another big flurry of snow, and more is forecast over the weekend, yessssss!
