Meribel Altitude Festival Break

Meribel Altitude Festival Break

Altitude FestivalThe Altitude Festival, 20-26 March 2010, is fast becoming a favourite with the snow loving alt.comedy crowd, as the event goes from strength to strength.

Altitude is a week long combined Comedy, Music and Slopestyle fest; described by someone I don’t know as ‘The Edinburgh Fringe on Snow’. The Comedy is strong enough to be featured on Dave, so it’s got to be good to playout alongside Stephen Fry, Spaced and Top Gear! This year the line up includes: BAFTA award winnning Andrew Maxwell (he’s also C4s ‘King of Comedy’), Marcus Brigstocke, Steve Frost, Richard Vranch and a load more. Not only do you get the chance to rub shoulders with some of the comedy elite, but there’s the small matter of ’the world’s largest ski area’ (Trois Vallées: 330 runs over 600kms) to give your shoulders something else to do.

Les Plattiéres SnowparkMeribel claims that it’s Plattiéres snowpark is the oldest in the 3 Valleys, being first built in 1995. What’s of more interest is that it’s based slap bang in the middle of the Meribel area, it covers 6 hectares (that’s 15 acres!) and has a drop of 300 metres.

For the Altitude Festival there’s a Big Air competition, a Super-hero themed Boarder-cross (come costumed-up) and, of course, a three legged ski race… There are also many free gigs in Meribel’s bars as well as higher profile ticketed ones, the line-up of comedians, bands and DJs is yet to be fully announced, but as soon as more is known we’ll update this page.

The 3 Valley’s are always popular, and accommodation can demand a bit of a premium if you don’t book early enough, click here for our Meribel Chalets still available for the festival week.
