A real apres ski classic is of course the drink they call Mutzig! Not just strong lager, but real loopy juice that always makes the night extremely funny. And extra points if you can make it back to the chalet for din dins.
This sells in only a few establishments who are confident enough in their hired door-muscle to fend off drunken revellers who will start to “turn” after about 6pm. Seriously – this stuff makes the world look very wobbly after just 2 pints!
The finest outlet for this rare offering is in a bar called Bar Robinson in Morzine. A bar that used to be the quietest joint in town – run by an old couple (and still is) – who insist on closing their doors just after 7pm. A wise move indeed. Bar Robinson has now become a bit of a cult bar thanks to its quirky owners and heady drinks menu.
Bar Robinson was, i beleive, first discovered by the Snowboard Lodge crew back in 1997. Those boys used to frequent it regularly (back in the day!) when it was a far more sedate day-time-only cafe – with Mutzig sitting quietly under the counter. The lads from the Lodge soon discovered this master brew and started taking guests there (myself included). Now the following for this pub has grown beautifully. Long live the Robinsons! And long live Mutzig!
