Walks are varied and run from half a day to day long – either valley floor and forest walks (low altitude) or higher altitude options. Trams and cable cars can access higher vantage points with stunning alpine views.
See our Guided Holiday Deal - Guided Walking Holiday Alps
Our Guided walking holidays come with an English speaking professional mountain guide who will explain features and local history along the way. He will be a certified mountain leader and ensure that walks are within your capabilities and fitness levels as well as prioritising your safety at all times.
Walks will come with plenty of rest stops and will go at a pace to suit the group, especially when walking up hill. Group sizes are 8-10 and our guided walks are intended for an average level of fitness. The guide will appreciate that when walking for successive days, tiredness can build up.
How tough?
Please choose the level that will best suit you:
Level 1
Our level 1 guided walks are for an average level of fitness and will last slightly more than half a day. They will have limited climbing and low altitude. Valley floor and forest walks with slight inclines and downhill walks. Paths will be clear with less weather impact. They can be extended if the group prefers.
Level 2
Our Level 2 is still for an average level of fitness and primarily ¾ day or full day-long walks in the mountains and at higher altitude, so slightly harder work. Harder inclines - possibly using ladders and chains may feature on route. Paths can be steeper, narrower, rocky and rooted with some loose bits.
Level 3
Level 3 walks are day long and will involve tougher inclines of up to 1000m or more per day. Higher altitudes again – so harder work. Walks may involve snow, rocky loose bits or glacier walks - crampons or ice axes may be necessary and guides will provide, or can be rented locally. Fixed ladders and chains may also feature (as in Level 2).
Features common to all walking Levels
The mountains are accessible to all fitness levels but when walking for successive days, tiredness can build and our guides will appreciate this. Sun and heat can also play a big factor and sun-creams will be necessary. Expect rain showers and hot sunshine, and perhaps cooler temps also.
Private guides – smaller groups
Our group sizes are 8-10 people which we believe work best on the social and safety front. You may hire a private guide for yourself or your group on a per-day basis and we can upgrade you to this.
