Excellent location, good hotel for cleanliness, food and rooms. The only comment on Maria the owner is that she needs to learn to smile a little (it costs nothing) ! The sitting of people together for meals was an excellent idea,as it made people overcome the typically british habit of seeming aloof and not mixing.
The only minor complaint about the room was that the shower was small but it was not a great problem. It is certainly worth paying for a lake view room, we had room 111 and the view was fantastic.

The hotel is spotless and about a 15 minute walk from the beautiful town centre.Bedrooms you would expect to be "tired" at the end of the season were clean and crisp

Just returned from a great week, staying at Hotel Cristallo, Lake Garda. Having stayed in another 3 star hotel in Limone a few years back, I thought this pretty much matched it for quality. Having read the reviews on here I went prepared for a bit of road noise and the small pool and was therefore not disappointed with what seemed to me to be the only weaknesses.
This hotel may be on the main road, but it's location high up above the lake gives great views - we did pay extra for the lake views and it was worth it. Loved our terrace outside the room and my friend upstairs from us had a balony with even more stunning views. Although the pool was a lot smaller than the one at the hotel we had stayed at in Limone, the location was much better and the close proximity to the lake and to several beaches meant we swam in the lake more than the pool, although the pool was fine. Many of the comments on here seem to be dominated talk of Maria so we were quite looking forward to meeting her(!) and having done so, are not quite sure what all the fuss it about. After all you only see her at meal times or when passing the reception and she seemed perfectly nice to us. A bit of a character probably but that's cool. Our rooms were kept clean and tidy, towels changed etc, food was fine especially for what we paid - if we wanted a little more luxury we could have eaten out. Proximity to lake was great as already metioned. 5 min walk right out of hotel along main road and then down the cut through takes you straight to the lake - fab. The 15 to 20 min walk into the centre of Malcesine was not a problem as it was such a beautiful walk along the lake front. Not much nightlife at the hotel but we were never there in the evenings as so much was going on in Malcesine, so didn't really bother us. Hotel also has minimal option of bar food at lunch time... looked like about 3 sandwiches but again didn't really matter to us as we were usually elsewhere at lunchtime. Over all , great holiday.

We found that "Maria" was a very warm and friendly host and always greated us with a smile, what ever other people might have said. The food and our terreced room where fab, the pool was small but adequate and the location we found was just nicely out of the main resort. The views from all dirrections where out of this world we didn't what to come home. We will go back to this hotel and resort hopefully next year.

“Fab Hotel”
We Have recently returned from a holiday in Italy staying at the Hotel Cristallo we arrivfed late evening and were greeted very warmly by Maria who proceded to show us to the dining room for a delicious three course meal despite the late hour.
Our room was spotlessly clean albeit a bit small but HEY you are only sleeping in it.
The situation of the hotel overlooking Lake Garda is stunning and there are lovely walks along the edge of the lake. Maria is a wonderful host who runs a tight ship but when you are dealing with the public you would have to.

“A good experience”
We too have just returned from a week's holiday at Hotel Cristallo, with Riviera Travel. We thought the hotel was very good indeed: the staff were helpful and friendly (and that includes Maria), the evening meals were excellent, catering for all tastes, and everything was spotlessly clean. The bedroom and bathroom were a little small, it's true, but we had a very comfortable double bed and an attractive lake view. The whole holiday was extremely good value, and the hotel was a large part of our enjoyment. It is true that we had to sit at the same table for breakfast and dinner, but this worked well for us as we shared our table with a very congenial couple with whom we got on extremely well.

We've just returned from a week at the Hotel Cristallo and our experience proves that one should never read the critics. I'd perused the reviews prior to our trip and was somewhat appprehensive. However, the hotel was spotlessly clean, the food good, and Maria, although running a "tight ship" is a charming, obliging and warm hostess.
