Traditional village, with great 'boarding.

As part of the Portes du Soleil, Les Gets has a huge amount of boardable terrain ready to be explored, linked with Morzine, Avoriaz and the Swiss resort of Champery. Although less well known than Morzine, Les Gets not only has better terrain but is higher with a subsequent better snow record. The town has not gone in for the high rise blocks that blight some of the French alps, traditional style wooden chalets of various sizes are the most typical accommodation available.

Freeriding.

For freeriding, the bowl off the top of La Rosta (1665m) and Le Ranfoilly (1826m) lifts is worth checking out. A longer lift link is to the Chamoissiere (2002m) bowl over in the Morzine area. Most of the slopes are well lined with trees, which gives ample opportunity to go wandering off the edge of the pistes into the wood. Fresh snow falls will reap their reward in these areas.

Freestyle.

Although Les Gets has no halfpipe, it does have quite an extensive freestyle area in Mont Chery. Expect a mix of well maintained hips, rails, table-tops, boxes and kickers. There are definite rail and kicker lines you can follow to maximise your time there, without having to hunt out the next obstacle to hit. Many fun parks rely on drag lifts, but Les Gets’ is served by a chair. This drops you right at the top of the Freestyle District, and right beside a nice mountain bar/restaurant! If you’re after more advanced park work then you will find Les Gets’ offering a bit tame. In that case it’s Avoriaz you’ll have to look to, and the La Chapelle snow park.
Ranfoilly is a good place to start from if you want to bash some pistes, with a long, rolling, Red run a highpoint. In fact the bowl has a really good number of intermediate runs, away from the beginners and novices.

Learning to 'Snowboard

If you're learning to snowboard then Les Gets is a terrific starting point, with really good , English speaking instructors. For beginners, the top of the Les Chavannes cable car is definitely a place to head for, with a gentle area served by a Magic Carpet lift to get you going. Further on are some nice, wide blue pistes, great for improving. The area is a good place for mixed ability groups to meet up in because there is a wide variety of terrain feeding into it, with cafe bars to aim for.
